JavaScript Game Project Description

Build a game using JavaScript. The game can be one of the following:

Role-playing
Text-based (choose your own adventure)
Board game
Action
Trivia

Project Components

The Game must cover basic JavaScript fundamentals to include data structures, functions, loops, decisions, DOM manipulation, and algorithmic structures.

Data structures

In this project, the following data structures should be used in creation of the game:
- Arrays
- Objects
- Variables
- Constants

Functions

In this project, knowledge of how functions work should be represented in the game by accurately indicating the following in the code:
- Accurate structure, syntax for creation of a function
- Accurate structure, syntax for calling a function

Loops

In this project, knowledge of how loops work should be represented in the game by accurately using the following loop types:
- For
- For each
- While

Decisions

In this project, knowledge of how decisions should be utilized in code will be illustrated with proper use of:
- If, then statements
- If, else statements
- Switch

DOM Manipulation

In this project, DOM Manipulation will be utilized in multiple ways. Proper use of this structure will show the coder understands the following: (resource)
- What it is
- How to select elements
  - getElementById()
  - getElementByClassName()
  - getElementByTagName()
- How to select elements with CSS Selectors
  - querySelector()
- Advanced features
  - Create elements: createElement()
  - Set inner HTML: .innerHTML()

  - Replace a child element: document.replaceChild(newNode, existingNode)
- Event Listeners
  - addEventListener()

Algorithmic Structures

In this project, algorithmic structures will be utilized in the following ways:
- Design of the game
  - Rules of play
  - Logic structures
  - “Winner” determining factors

Recommendations

Use pseudo code to structure the game. Be specific with functionality when writing pseudo code.
Build in chunks. Solve one issue at a time. This will help your code not get scattered.
Build a minimal viable product (MVP) before adding any special features. This may include any win-lose scenarios, scene changes, scoring, etc., necessary to gameplay.
