Examine a Script with Syntax Highlighting in the Editor

✅ In the explorer (not the terminal), navigate into the cellar and select treasure to view it in the code editor.

At the top of the script is a shebang statement: #!/bin/bash
- The shebang statement tells the system to use bash to interpret the commands in this script file.
- The editor uses that same statement to perform syntax highlighting. That is, it colors the statements in the script based on its knowledge of bash.
The exact coloring can be set by changing the theme from the gear icon on the bottom right, but the choices displayed here are:
- Dark red represents any statement that gets echoed to the screen. This might be part of an echo statement or part of a heredoc
- Magenta for keywords in the language
- Green for comments
- black for commands

Heredoc

A heredoc is a special block of code that behaves as a separate code block. The heredocs in bashcrawl are delimited by EOF (end of file). A heredoc is often used to echo text to the screen as it is less cumbersome for a big block than using echo "blah blah" at the beginning of each line.
