Setting the Matlab Path

Like Bash, Matlab needs a search path to determine where to look for programs it can run. If you have Matlab installed on your own machine, setting the path is really easy, because you have permission to modify pathdef.m. On the Apporto machines, you don't have permission to modify pathdef.m, so you have to copy it instead. Detailed instructions are in the practicum document.

Tips and Tricks: Matlab path

If you add lots of directories, Matlab will put them into the path in some order and then, just like Bash, it'll start whatever version of the file it finds first in that path!
● For example, if you have fred.m under conn21a and fred.m under conn22a and both are in the path, whichever is first will start! As you might imagine, this can cause a real headache!
● Be cautious about which directories you add to the path. This caution will ease the burden for Matlab (it won't have to look in hundreds of directories) and ease the burden for you (you'll have a clear concept of which versions of tools in your path are actually getting selected).
