Review: Built-In Math Operations

In Java, there are several built-in math operations that can be used to perform calculations in your code. These operations are essential to many programming tasks, from simple arithmetic to more complex calculations. In this lesson, we will cover the basic math operations in Java and how to use them. The four basic math operations are addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. These operations can be used with any numbers, including integers and floating-point numbers, or any variables of numeric data types. Here is an example performing all four operations: int x = 10; int y = 2; int sum = x + y; // Addition Output: 12 int difference = x - y; // Subtraction Output: 8 int product = x * y; // Multiplication Output: 20 int quotient = x / y; // Division Output: 5 In the examples above, we first declare two integer variables, `x` and `y`, and assign them the values `10` and `2`, respectively. We then use each of the basic math operations to perform calculations with these values. It is worth noting that when performing division with integers, Java will truncate the result to an integer value. This means that if the result is a non-integer value, the decimal portion will be lost. To perform division with floating-point numbers (decimals), you can use the `double` or `float` data types instead.
