You have already finished the basic game of Pong, but this lesson shows how to add a screen GUI to keep track of the score and how to increase the game difficulty.

Keeping Score

A while ago, we added 2 variables, pWins and cWins to keep track of how many times the player or computer wins a round. Now, let's use those variables in update.

To display the score on the screen, we're going to create a pygame font object.

pygame.font.SysFont(name, size) - this function creates a Font object. You need to specify the font name and size.

The font object can now generate some text to put on the screen.

[font object].render( text, antialias, color ) - this function creates a text object that you can draw on the screen. You need to specify the text you want, set antialias to True, and specify the color you want.

str( num ) - this function takes a number and returns the string equivalent. This is necessary if we want to combine the player and computer scores with a colon ( " : " )

[window].blit(surface, position) - this function takes a drawable object (called a "surface" in pygame) and draws it at position. This is useful for drawing unique things to the screen that aren't rectangles or circles.

Now the score for the player and computer is displayed on the screen.
