We love to blow things up in video games. In this lesson, you will learn how to create a mod that distributes TNT blocks throughout a large area in a very short amount of time. This mod is useful for destroying villages and woodland mansions.

The Details

The TNT distribution in the picture above is 3 levels of TNT

Each level is 10 TNT blocks long and 10 TNT blocks wide.
Each block of TNT is separated horizontally by 3 blocks of air.
The vertical levels are 3 blocks apart.

First, we will learn how to spawn a row of TNT. Then, we can use that knowledge and spawn several rows to get a level. Finally, we will spawn multiple levels of TNT to get the results you see above.

First Row

Each row of TNT is 37 blocks long. That is, there are 10 blocks of TNT with 3 spaces in between each block. The row starts in front of the player and goes to the right as illustrated below.

The following code uses a loop to create one row of TNT. Try it out.

First Level

Now you know how to place one row of TNT, but how will we create the 9 other rows to get the first level? First, we create a variable, z, which keeps track of how far forward or back we are placing blocks.

Z starts at 1 since the first row is 1 block in front of the player.
After we finish building a row, we set x back to 0 (to go back to the left)
After building a row, and then we add 4 to z to go forward.

Note: x += 1 is a common programming shortcut which means "add 1 to x."

The code:

Test the mod. After typing boom in the chat (or whatever name you decide on), make sure not to move so all the blocks place correctly. The result should look like this.

The Remaining Levels

To create the last 2 levels, we will need a y variable. Every time we finish creating 1 level, we set z back to 1 (to move back towards the player), and we change y by 4 to move up.

If you did everything correctly, the result should look like the pictures from the beginning of this lesson. Run the command "/locate mansion" to get the coordinates of the nearest woodland mansion, and then teleport the player there. Walk inside, and test your mod by blowing up the mansion!
