Have you ever heard of the villain Brainiac from the DC comics? Brainiac was one of Superman's enemies who shrunk entire cities and collected them in his ship.

In this lesson, you will make a mod that will allow the player to move structures in the world (like villager houses) and send them to other locations.

Cloning

Minecraft Education comes with a clone from block that will copy all blocks in a certain range to a specified position. This block is similar to the fill with block we've used a lot, but it has 3 positions:

From - the starting position of the region you want to copy

To - the ending position of the region you want to copy

Into - the position where your copy is sent.

To practice, let's make a chat command called copy which will duplicate the blocks surrounding the player and sent the duplicate forward 10 blocks.

Test the mod. You will see that a small portion of terrain is copied in front of you. Notice that the copied terrain keeps the same compass orientation as the original. For example, build a small arrow made of obsidian and stand on top of it.

Now turn to the right and run the copy command. You'll see that the copied arrow still points forward even though you are facing the right.

Beginning the Mod

To make the mod described at the beginning of this lesson, we need the player to be able to choose exactly what to region to copy. To start, create 2 variables called pos1 (short for position 1) and pos2.

When the player uses an iron shovel, pos1 will be set to the player position.

Now make a similar command that will set pos2 to the player position when a golden shovel is used. Lastly, using a diamond shovel will copy the terrain between pos1 and pos2 to a spot in front of the player.

Test your mod. Find a tree, and copy it like in the video below.
