What if you wanted to make a mod that places a pillar of glowstone 3 blocks high directly in front of the player? That would seem like a pretty easy task. You just need to change the Y level of each block you place.

Alternatively, you can use the fill with block and specify the to and from positions to build the pillar.

Try one of these methods and run the mod. You'll quickly discover that the pillar will not always spawn in front of the player. It will simply spawn north of the player.

The success of the mod depends on what direction the player faces. How will we get the pillar to spawn in front of the player every time? We need to learn about the right-above-in front block.

Rather than using the East/West, Up/Down, North/South system that our relative coordinates use, the right-above-in front block specifies a position relative to where the player is facing. After implementing the code above, the pillar will spawn in front of the player, not just north of the player.

Note: notice that this block has no 'left', 'below,' or 'behind' sections. That is because you don't need them. If you want a position left of the player, use a negative number for right. If you want a position below the player, use a negative number for above.

Challenges

Challenge 1:

Make a mod that spawns a chicken at the world position (100, 100, 100), waits 2 seconds, then teleports the player to that same position. If you did everything correctly, you should be able to find the chicken. If you are teleporting underground, use a higher Y value.

Hint: time delays are under the Loops block category while player teleportation is under Player.

Challenge 2:

Make a mod that spawns 8 pillagers around the player, evenly spaced. The pattern looks like this

Hint: spawning monsters is different from spawning animals. You need to use the monster block.
